The initial training period is followed by a second phase during which practical tasks are conducted in Courts of First Instance, as well as Examining Magistrates’ Courts - or if applicable in uni-jurisdictional courts - under the direct personal supervision of previously designated Tutoring Judges.During this second phase, and through their full incorporation into the daily dynamics of the courts, trainee judges will complete their training through the application of the theoretical and practical knowledge they have received during the first year of initial classroom-based training.

The objectives to be achieved during this second phase are:

• The gradual integration of the judge into working practices.
• Consolidation of the knowledge and practical skills necessary for professional practice.
• Control of the various procedural forms.
• Management of hearings.
• Professional time and agenda management.
• Relationship with other operators.

The student goes through four types of court and works with different tutors, who must ensure the gradual inclusion of the trainee judge in jurisdictional functions. During the first few weeks of each period, trainees must observe, analyse and work with their tutors, in order to then assume the responsibility of procedural actions as directed by their tutors, under their supervision, writing draft resolutions and carrying out all of the other functions that apply to the court in which they are providing tasks of support, replacement and reinforcement.

It is essential to connect the on-site phase with the practical phase, since it allows the continuation of the process of acquiring professional competencies, and thus ensuring the suitable professional insertion of the trainee judge.

In order to enhance the knowledge of the social environment of the tasks of a judge, sojourns and activities at support agencies and institutions relating to judicial duties have been scheduled through the Regional Coordinators.
