Training of judges

The Council has the legal authority to select and train Judges who practice in Spain and to adapt to juridical innovations that affect its jurisdictional functions.

The Judicial School is responsible of the correct selection and technical preparation of the judges. It acts under the dependency of the Plenary Session. It has its headquarters in Barcelona.

The Judicial School of the Council is in charge of:

  • The processes of selection of Judges.
  • The initial training of future judges. It lasts two years once passed the competitive examination. The first year is academic and it is offered by teachers at the Judicial School. The second year consists of training in a Court, under the direct and personal supervision of tutor Judges.
  • To supervise the continuous training of judges. It develops programs and activities aimed to guarantee the professional improvement of the members of the Judicial Career. Each member of the Judicial Career will count on a specialized plan of continuous training.
