What is the HCJ Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla?

The High Court of Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla is located in Granada and constitutes a judicial instance that forms part of the general framework of the sole judiciary of the State, adapted to its territorial jurisdiction. It is the maximum judicial organ in the autonomous community, without affecting the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court as the highest organ in all jurisdictions, excepting matters that require constitutional guarantees, competence for which corresponds to the Constitutional Court.

The justice system in Andalusia is regulated by Title V of the Estatuto de Autonomía (Statute of Autonomy), in compliance with the constitutional rule reflected in article 152 of the Constitution of the Constitution, which states that the autonomous communities that accede to autonomy through article 151 will have, along with an assembly, government council and president, a high court as the last instance of the judicial organization in the autonomous community, without detriment to the jurisdiction that corresponds to the Supreme Court.

The high court is the last constitutional institution envisaged in the statute. It was established following enactment of Judiciary Act 6/1985 of 1 July and Ley de Demarcación y Planta Judicial (Demarcation and Judicature Act) 38/1988 of 28 December.

It is located in the Real Chancillería (Royal Chancellery) of Granda.
