International Relations Service

The international relations of the General Council of the Judiciary are entrusted to the International Relations Service.

As from its foundation, the General Council of the Judiciary has been defining progressively the vision of its own performance in the area of international relations. This performance is currently directed to the achievement of the following aims:

  • To contribute – within the limits of its jurisdiction – to achieving the general aims of Spanish foreign policy in the area of international cooperation towards development, through the design and execution of programs and projects in the Legal Sector.
  • To support and cooperate with the reform, modernisation, and institutional and organizing processes of the judiciary in the countries of our geographic, political, linguistic, historic and socio-economic environment.
  • To contribute to the consolidation of the European Judicial Space, and to spread Communal Law among the judicial community.
  • To strengthen the institutional presence of the Council, as well as that of Spanish judges and magistrates in international forums and circles of judicial character and content.

For the development of these lines of action, three activity spaces have been created within the International Relations Service:
