Senior Courts

The Chief Justice is a figure that appears in those localities where there is more than one unipersonal court. It is a primus inter pares that assumes the functions of organization of the various Courts in matters such as assuring the adequate functioning of the duty service, convening Judges’ meetings, keeping watch on the correct use of judicial premises, and the distribution of cases.

The Chief Justice is the head of the Court which occupies first place on the seniority scale. However, in those towns which have ten or more courts, the Chief Justice is elected by the rest of his/her peers.
