What is the Governing Chamber

The Governing Chamber is the governing body of the courts of the Autonomous Region. It performs organisational and administrative tasks.

The Government Chamber of the Superior Tribunal of Justice in Cantabria is integrated by eight members and has representative personality, as half of them are elected democratically by judges and magistrates of the autonomic community. Three of them have the category of magistrate and the fourth, the category of judge. The Chamber has four ex officio members, which means that they are members according to their original position: the president of the Superior Tribunal of Justice in Cantabria who is also president of the Government Chamber, the presidents of the Contentious-administrative Division and the Social Affairs Division, and the president of the Provincial Audience.

The secretary of such governmental entity is the secretary of the Government of the Superior Tribunal of Justice in Cantabria.

Boards of Governance will meet at least twice a month unless there are pending matters and as may times as may be necessary in order to discuss urgent issues for the administration of justice, when deemed necessary by the Chief Justice of the High Court of Justice, when requested by a third part of its members submitting a proposal stating the grounds for their request indicating the matters to be transacted thereat or when requested by the Secretary of Governance in order to discuss issues which refer to judicial officers or to Court Registrars who report to him. Notice of the meeting will be made by the Chief Justice indicating the matters to be discussed.
