The Judicial Documentation Centre is the technological centre of the General Council of the Judiciary.

As established by art. 619 of the Organic Law on the Judiciary, The Judicial Documentation Centre is a technical body of the CGPJ, which serves to select, order, handle, disseminate and publish judicial information, as well as information regarding legislation, case law and doctrine.

Furthermore, the Judicial Documentation Centre is charged with collaborating in the implementation of the decisions adopted by the General Council of the Judiciary with regards to the harmonisation of computer systems that lead to greater efficiency within Court activity.

The CENDOJ, following the corresponding technical processes, officially publishes the case law of all of the Spanish Collegiate Courts and makes them available to all citizens universally and free of charge via the website poderjudicial.es, which currently offers over 9 million judicial rulings.

The CENDOJ is responsible for devising, designing, producing, securing, managing the technical aspects and contents, administering, developing and maintaining the public and private web portal www.poderjudicial.es, by means of which the majority of the services offered by the Centre can be accessed.

In the private sphere it offers all members of the judiciary some notable added value in terms of case law, access to publications and the dossiers, and responses to queries about documents and case law.  It enables and administers debate forums, provides and manages corporate mail, facilitates online forms and many other applications, while providing training on all such matters, in order to serve as a useful and efficient tool for the daily work of its members.

It establishes and maintains alliances and strategic relationships via agreements, and it provides guidance about international legal cooperation, along with technical and legal support for the creation of Judicial Documentation Centres both in Europe and in America. It also participates in several different work groups and commissions, taking part in courses and conferences.

The objective of the CENDOJ is to optimise the management of judicial knowledge via the use of ICT.

Judicial activity is based on knowledge and, therefore, it is not only necessary to be able to access information, but also to manage and use such information. Thus, the management of judicial knowledge contributes to the modernisation of the Justice System, as it establishes a more efficient work methodology in the exercise of the judicial function, drawing both on the information contained on the portal, which comes from different sources, such as judicial decisions, reports, both in national and international publications, applications, etc., and the information obtained in the collaborative field.

Structure of the CENDOJ:

Although the structure of the CENDOJ is divided into sections, which are closely interconnected, the working method is carried out through processes, in line with its strategic plan.

The CENDOJ management team, currently made of the Director and four other lawyers, works together in collaboration, with roles that are specifically defined yet open and interconnected.
