The ‘Audiencia Nacional’ (National Criminal Court) has its seat in Madrid, and it is a unique legal organ in Spain with jurisdiction over the entire national territory, constituting a centralized Court, and specialised in the knowledge of certain matters attributed by law. It was created as per Royal Decree 1/1977 (Government Gazette dated the 5^th of January 1977).

It deals specifically with the most serious and most relevant social crimes, including terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, crimes against the Crown, or financial crimes causing serious damage to the national economy. Regarding contentious administrative matters, the National Criminal Court oversees the resolutions of the State Administration. In social jurisdiction it deals, fundamentally, with complaints against collective agreements of a higher territorial scope than an autonomous community, or that will affect a larger territorial area than that of a community.
